Inspired by the minimalism movement and high fashion, Aeril Lab wanted to create a line of medical care products that could seamlessly fit into everyday life. To achieve this, Dunaeva utilized bold, strong fonts and modern chopped sans serif typography to convey a sense of sophistication and elegance. The use of white space and fresh, bright images further enhances the brand's clean and healthy aesthetic, appealing to their target audience of young women.
What sets Aeril Lab apart from other skincare brands is their focus on complete care. Recognizing that many people only purchase one product from a series, Aeril Lab sought to showcase the importance of a comprehensive skincare routine through their packaging design. The use of lines symbolizes the different stages of skincare, from the general care of the whole body to the specific needs of the under-eye zone. This visual representation encourages consumers to invest in the entire series, ensuring they receive the full benefits of Aeril Lab's products.
The realization of Aeril Lab's packaging design utilizes various materials such as plastic bottles, tubes, jars, and dispensers. Each product is carefully crafted to meet the technical specifications required for optimal functionality and user experience. For example, the tube measures 35mm x 35mm x 175mm, while the bottle measures 44mm x 44mm x 150mm. These precise dimensions ensure that the packaging is both practical and aesthetically pleasing.
When interacting with Aeril Lab's skincare products, consumers immediately recognize that they are purchasing more than just a regular cream. The design communicates trust and reliability, emphasizing the necessary steps one must take to achieve the best results in skin restoration. By offering a complete range of products, Aeril Lab bridges the gap between medical care and beauty, positioning their series as a lifestyle product that can proudly sit alongside decorative cosmetics in the bathroom.
The design project for Aeril Lab began in September 2018 in Moscow and was completed in October 2018. Throughout the process, extensive research was conducted to understand the needs and preferences of the target audience. Interviews revealed that many potential customers were hesitant to invest in a full line of new products due to concerns about product effectiveness, packaging aesthetics, and the integration of medical care products into their daily routines. In response, Dunaeva and her team created a simple, trustful, and visually appealing package design that addresses these concerns. The final result is a minimalistic design that exudes a sense of medical expertise, with ample white space and a focus on product effectiveness without overwhelming marketing claims.
One of the main challenges faced during the design process was creating a design system that could adapt to future product variations while maintaining a cohesive brand identity. The goal was to emphasize product continuity and the importance of a comprehensive skincare routine. This was achieved through the use of geometric elements and bold typography, with each product representing a specific step in the skincare routine. By visually highlighting the importance of each step through simple geometric lines, customers can easily understand the significance of thorough and comprehensive care.
The exceptional design of Aeril Lab's packaging has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in 2019. This award celebrates designs that exhibit outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skill.
